PPP sends constitutional package to coalition partners

By Muhammad Bilal

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Saturday submitted the proposed constitutional package to its coalition partners after party Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari approved it.

According to a statement issued by the Law Ministry, Law Minister Farooq H Naek submitted the constitutional package to Zardari on Friday. The co-chairman then approved it after suggesting changes. Following Zardari’s approval, Naek has started to forward the package to all coalition partners. The Law Ministry statement said that Naek had submitted copies of the constitutional package to representatives of the chiefs of the ANP, the JUI-F and the MQM. It said that the MQM would forward a copy of the package to MQM chief Altaf Hussain.

The statement said that Naek had contacted senior PML-N leader Khawaja Asif and conveyed a message that he would personally deliver a copy to PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif on Sunday at the latter’s residence.

Any changes suggested by the coalition partners would be incorporated into the package, the statement added. However, it was noticeably silent on whether a copy of the draft package had been forwarded to the legal fraternity and the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid.
